The Director of Youth Ministries (grades 6 through 12) will serve as the primary leader, innovator, and communicator for all youth programs and activities at Connection Community Church (UMC). This self-motivated individual will be the lead developer and teacher of curriculum and relational opportunities. Our ideal candidate will strive to establish a diverse community of students who ask great questions, make faith their own, and live out the message of the Bible in tangible ways. The successful candidate will desire to build young disciples for Jesus by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to youth ministry (in the areas of small groups, worship, discipleship, evangelism, mission, and outreach) while serving as a spiritual leader and role model. The Director of Youth Ministries will develop a comprehensive, relational ministry with Middle and High School students and their families in our congregation and community. The goal of the ministry is to introduce students to Jesus Christ, nurture their faith journey, and inte- grate them into the life and ministry of the church. Connection Community Church is a culturally diverse congregation and we desire our youth ministry to mirror and enhance that diversity. Connection Community Church seeks to connect people with Jesus and the new life He offers and we desire our youth ministry to do the same. This is a full time, salaried position to build dis- ciples for Jesus by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to youth ministry (grades 6 through 12) in the areas of relationship building, worship, discipleship, evangelism, mission, and outreach.


Create and sustain a comprehensive ministry for Middle School and High School Students
This includes but is not limited to:

  • Developing and leading weekly large group youth fellowship program(s)
  • Developing and implementing regular service and mission projects
  • Developing and implementing weekly youth ministry small groups
  • Overseeing curriculum and volunteers for Middle & High School Sunday School
  • Building relationships with students outside of programmed church activities
  • Building relationships with families of students during, but not limited to, times of crisis, celebration, and challenge
  • Participating in community outreach to engage with students outside of church walls
  • Communicating regularly with parents and students
  • Developing and overseeing student ministry social media communication
  • Working to integrate youth ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries

Develop leadership, attend worship, participate as staff, and administer the program
This includes but is not limited to:

  • Mentoring students to become active leaders in the youth ministry program, the church, their school, the community, and the world
  • Developing adult leadership and effective teams to support and grow the youth ministry
  • Creating occasional, recreational, bonding times for the youth ministry team
  • Attending Sunday morning worship and encouraging students to attend and participate
  • Preaching occasionally on Sunday morning or other special worship opportunities
  • Attending staff meetings and other meetings as requested by pastors
  • Developing and managing youth budget and calendar

  • Is capable of casting and imparting vision for ministry, able to relate with students, parents, andstaff.
  • Has a working knowledge of and passion for God’s Word
  • Is able to articulate the faith in a contagious manner
  • Has a strong commitment to relational ministry in a team-based approach
  • Understands youth culture and experience
  • Is able to engage with students in a variety of settings (school, sports, the arts, church, home,etc)
  • Has proven leadership and organizational ability
  • Is able to recruit, motivate, train, and empower volunteers for ministry

  • Is committed to her/his own personal faith walk
  • Is reliable
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal skills
