Vampires

The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, “If only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost — also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!”
Numbers 11:4-6 New International Version (NIV)

Nehemiah

When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews, and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, “What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble — burned as they are?” Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said, “What they are building — even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!” [Nehemiah prays to God and says] “Hear us, our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity. Do you cover up their guilt or blot out their sins from your sight, for they have thrown insults in the face of the builders.”
Nehemiah 4:1-5 (NIV)

Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?” But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.
Matthew 22:15-22 (NIV)

After the people saw the sign Jesus performed [feeding the people], they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.” Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself [and pray].
John 6:14-15 (NIV)

I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies.
Psalm 18:1-3 (NIV)

How do we handle the vampires in our life?
PRAY!

  • for Christ-like compassion, grace, and mercy.
  • for God to show what boundaries may be needed.
  • for God to help you be honest with yourself.
  • for God to help you listen carefully.
  • for God to help you realize that you can’t change someone else, only yourself.

Mummies

Lord, may nothing separate me from You today. Teach me how to choose only Your way so each step will lead me closer to You. Help me walk by the Word. Help me to keep my heart pure and undivided. Protect me from those things that wrap me up and keep me from focusing on You. God continue to reign in my life. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Wrapped up in the wrong things!

“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.”
Exodus 20:2-3 New International Version (NIV)

Imperfect vessels used by God

What happens when we let the wrong priorities and idols reign in our lives?

Self-Worship

In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
Romans 6:11-14 (NIV)

Why not give it to God?

As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” He said to another man, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.” Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
Luke 9:57-62 (NIV)

When we leave God out of our daily planning, we risk getting wrapped up in the wrong things.

3 Tools to Rewrap Ourselves in Christ

Tool #1: Read the Bible.

What we do in a day is where our heart is or is not. It’s our choice.

Tool #2: We can’t settle for being Sunday saints.

All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Acts 2:44-47 (NIV)

Tool #3: Prayer

God should be first place in our lives. Our #1 priority!

What’s keeping you wrapped up?
Are you willing to unwrap for God?

Werewolves

Werewolf:
Webster- a person transformed into a wolf or capable of assuming a wolf’s form
Britanica- someone who turns into a wolf at night and devours animals & people but returns to human form by day
Today- someone who noticeably changes, under certain circumstances; someone who devours others emotionally and we wonder “Who Are You?”

Who are you when?

Acts 16: Paul & Silas

“I have told you these things,
so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!
I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33 New International Version (NIV)

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character;
and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Romans 5:3-5 (NIV)

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called
according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28 (NIV)

John 10 – The Good Shepherd

“I came that they may have life,
and have it abundantly.”

John 10:10b New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

It’s at those “WHEN” moments that we have a choice!

WHO ARE YOU?

Skeletons

He returned to Nazareth, his hometown. When he taught there in the synagogue, everyone was amazed and said, “Where does he get this wisdom and the power to
do miracles?” Then they scoffed, “He’s just the carpenter’s son, and we know Mary, his mother, and his brothers –
James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas. All his sisters live right here among us. Where did he learn all these things?”
And they were deeply offended and refused to believe in him.
Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his own family.”
And so he did only a few miracles there because
of their unbelief.

Matthew 13:54-58 New Living Translation (NLT)

The skeletons in your closet.

Are your Life Ghouls getting in the way of God’s Life Goals for you?

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you
and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11 New International Version (NIV)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but to save the world through him.

John 3:16-17 (NIV)

FEAR!

For God has not given us
a spirit of fear and timidity,
but of power, love,
and self-discipline.

2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)

This is the message we have heard from him [Jesus] and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light,
as he is in the light, we have fellowship
with one another, and the blood of Jesus,
his Son, purifies us from all sin.

1 John 1:5-7 (NIV)

Don’t let your past get in the way of your future.

A skeleton may still hurt but it will no longer haunt.

“I have told you these things,
so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!
I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33 (NIV)
